Automotive OEM Body Control Module
Discover how an Automotive OEM streamlined software development for their body control module project.
Project Description
An Automotive OEM partnered with SimuQuest to address challenges in developing a body control module (BCM) for a new vehicle model, specifically focusing on a smart junction box. The OEM’s existing development process involved an extensive library of Simulink models, many of which were legacy components that required frequent updates and integration. Given the complex mix of new and legacy models, the team faced repeated delays due to manual, error-prone integrations across distributed development teams. These issues often led to significant setbacks, as troubleshooting and reworking integration errors consumed valuable resources and time.
Challenges
Model Complexity and Legacy Dependencies: Integrating hundreds of models—each with varying degrees of complexity and legacy constraints—made it difficult to ensure seamless interoperability and compatibility, particularly when introducing updates or new functionalities.
Distributed Teams and Communication Barriers: The OEM’s development teams were spread across various global locations, which compounded communication challenges and exacerbated integration errors. Coordinating model updates, software patches, and debugging efforts became time-consuming without a unified, automated process.
Manual Testing Bottlenecks: As the models grew, so did the testing requirements. The need for rigorous testing increased, but manual testing methods limited the team’s ability to quickly verify changes and maintain quality standards.
Results
SimuQuest provided a robust solution that helped the OEM address these challenges by automating the integration and testing processes for their large library Simulink models and leading to the following results:
Automated Integration of Simulink Libraries: SimuQuest enabled the seamless, automated integration of the OEM’s extensive Simulink library, significantly reducing manual intervention and mitigating integration errors. This not only sped up the development process but also improved consistency and reliability across modules.
Improved System Testing Capabilities: By implementing automated testing, the OEM could rigorously verify software changes and dependencies in real-time, making it easier to identify and address issues early. This automation reduced the team’s reliance on manual testing, enhancing both speed and software quality.
Streamlined Communication Across Teams: SimuQuest’s tools facilitated clearer communication and improved collaboration among distributed teams, enabling everyone involved to stay up-to-date on model revisions and integration statuses. This transparency minimized rework and miscommunication across global locations.
With SimuQuest’s support, the OEM successfully delivered a high-quality BCM solution with reduced time to market, improved software quality, and a streamlined development process that could handle both legacy and new model requirements. This partnership underscored the value of automated model and software integration in managing complex automotive software projects across distributed teams.
